ATL Rising. Again.
Print Design, Illustration
To mark the opening of Georgia World Congress Center Authority’s (GWCCA) newest addition to their Championship Campus — Signia by Hilton — Copeland designed a limited-edition case-bound book for VIP guests. The story, written by George Hirthler, follows Atlanta’s last 50 years. The book features pieces by artists in the hotel’s museum-quality art collection, with common themes referencing the City in the Trees.
Concept and Positioning
Like much of Atlanta, the 42-story streamlined glass structure is contrasted by the lush greenery of the city’s forests. As a reference to the building’s external grid design, the book has a subtle grid pattern background that organizes the book’s content.
The modern, clean grid layout is contrasted by customized chiseled typography, custom typographic illustrations, and artwork created by artists featured in the hotel’s collection. The chiseled typography is an homage to Signia’s monumental position within the championship campus and GWCCA’s accolades in Atlanta. The color palette, made up of earthy jewel tones, follows Signia’s brand palette and promotes the theme of The City in the Trees.
The book is organized into an introduction followed by five chapters. Each chapter aligns with a decade in Atlanta’s history, beginning with the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s, and ending with the 2020s. Each chapter begins with a chisel-style number digitally embossed on full-color, soft-touch pages. The chapter title is printed on translucent vellum overlaying one of the pieces of artwork.
The chapter’s first sentence is cleanly set in a text block. This page unfolds to the left, revealing a high-gloss pull quote in a custom typographic illustration inspired by the theme or time-period of the chapter.

Foldouts, high-gloss and soft-touch coatings, clear-printed foils, and vellum overlays create a beautiful and engaging multi-sensory experience. The title is debossed on a light gray leatherette cover, reiterating the monumental concept. A black die-cut slipcase encloses the book, creating another interactive layer for this piece.
